Streethearts manages or contributes to a number of regular programs; including:

Mobile Food Van

Each public holiday throughout the year we supply “mobile food” to approximately 150 homeless men & women at times when the established agencies are closed for a well deserved break. Holidays are lonely and hungry times for many people and we contribute to filling that gap with food and conversation.

Easter Lunch

We utilise the Chapel by the Sea facilities to provide a pasta “drop in lunch” open to one and all for those of our community who find themselves alone during this holiday season.

Emu Plains Correctional Centre

We are regularly contacted to help women from Emu Plains correctional Centre re-establish themselves in society. This includes providing furniture, bedding, basic living essentials etc. This program focuses on women who have their young children with them in a special unit with a rehabilitation focus that has achieved considerable success with a very minimal re-offending rate.

During the time of the mother’s incarceration, we focus our contributions on the children. Essentially we help ensure that their need and comfort are sustained during the term of their mother’s absence. Part of this program includes functions such as Christmas and Easter parties that include siblings and extended family. It also involves collection of warm clothing and cot blankets for the winter months.

Winter Program

At the start of winter funds from our Sponsors and fundraising are used to purchase and deliver warm PJ’s to each child under the Blue Mountains Community Services umbrella together with all the children at Emu Plains and their siblings.

We also deliver donations of warm clothing and blankets to street people who are living rough in the Kings Cross and Woolloomooloo area.

Pay forward

Streethearts, as do many non-profit teams, pay forward any donations that can be distributed to other non-profit teams with a specific goal. We receive many donations of pre-loved, clean items and once sorted we find people in need who can make use of them.

Christmas

Our Christmas program is extensive and includes:

Mid-December sit down lunch

Lunch for the homeless at Norman Andrews House, Bondi

Christmas Day ‘Drop in Lunch’

In conjunction with The Chapel by the Sea at Bond we operate a “drop in lunch”. Open to one and all, this meal is provided for those in our community who find themselves alone on Christmas Day.

Hampers

In the days prior to Christmas we package and deliver 90 hampers containing food for just one week of the Christmas period, including toiletries and gifts. These go to children and individuals affected by a member in prison and families in need, including many under the Blue Mountains Community Services Centre, who cover a wide area working with vulnerable families and risk of harm children.

As we work up to and during Christmas holiday season we provide many emergency hampers for those found homeless due to different circumstances. We fill requests coming from the police and other agencies.

Christmas Mobile Food

During the closed days of regular agencies we conduct 1 or 2 mobile food runs. All members and other volunteers gather early to pack lunches.. Car teams then cover the City, Kings Cross, Woolloomooloo and the Rocks to provide a meal and conversation to the Sydney homeless do it rough.
